We hope that some of your umbrella program questions may be answered below. If not, feel free to reach out to our Home Education Ministry Coordinator here.
How much do you charge annually?
ACC’s Home Education Ministry umbrella program has an annual fee of $80/family. However, if you are a Partner at Arundel Christian Church, we gladly waive that annual fee to support your family’s desire to homeschool.
Who conducts the review and what are their qualifications?
Our reviews will be conducted by ACC’s Home Education Coordinator or another approved reviewer on our ministry team. All reviewers have extensive background and experience in homeschooling, a deep love for Jesus and His ministry, and a thorough knowledge of COMAR and Maryland homeschool requirements. Our Coordinator, Melissa Ousdahl, is herself a homeschooling mother of three daughters and has homeschooled them from preschool through high school. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Liberty University, and then went on to Longwood University for a Master’s program in English Education.
What am I required to provide at a review?
Please bring 5-8 samples of work per subject. Prior to your review time, you will need to complete our online Homeschool Review Form. A link to fill out this form will be emailed to you once you schedule your review.
The following subjects will be reviewed for grades K-12: English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, Health, Physical Education and Bible.
COMAR requires proof of regular and thorough instruction in 8 subjects from K-12. These 8 subjects are English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, Health, and Physical Education. Additionally, ACC’s Home Education Ministry requires Bible training/discipleship to be a part of your regular teaching. Ultimately, the purpose of this review is to ensure that COMAR 13A.10.01.01C(1)(a)(b)(c) is followed and that your children are growing in wisdom and knowledge of God.
Who is responsible for setting up/scheduling my mandatory reviews?
You are. While our team will email you reminders (and a scheduling link) when you are due for a review, you are responsible for scheduling those appointments and attending. If your reviews are not completed when needed, you will be placed in “non-compliance” status and given 30-days to become compliant again.
Do you have additional requirements beyond what’s in the state regulation?
Yes! We expect all participants to have regular Biblical teaching. While training in other subjects is required by law, we believe that a thorough knowledge of Biblical truth is truly at the core of discipleship and knowledge.
What services are included?
Please visit our ACC Home Education Ministry homepage to see a list of the services we offer outside of our umbrella program.
What kind of support service do you offer families with special learning needs?
At this time, we do not provide any special services in an official capacity. We do, though, have many resources and knowledgeable/experienced parents/teachers in our program who would be happy to help or point you to resources that have been helpful to them. Don’t be afraid to ask!
Will my child get a diploma or transcript through your umbrella?
Not officially. We do have a professional template/service that will help you create one for yourself when it is needed.
Where are the reviews conducted?
All reviews are conducted at either Arundel Christian Church or at the Starbucks located at 910 Cromwell Park Drive, Glen Burnie, MD 21061. You will be able to choose the location that is best for you and your reviewer when making your appointments.
Who is the sponsoring organization for your umbrella?
Arundel Christian Church has a tremendous heart and passion for homeschooling and longs to support families that choose this route. To learn more about ACC, click here.
Is your umbrella accredited?
ACC’s Home Education Ministry is fully recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education and Anne Arundel County to support families in this way. Beyond this recognition, we are not an accredited “school” that issues transcripts or diplomas.
